Are chipmunks eating your birdfeeder seed or digging holes all over your lawn and landscaped areas?
Chipmunks’ diets consist primarily of grains, nuts, berries, flower bulbs, seeds, and mushrooms. They cause problems when they eat tender plant shoots and leaves. Chipmunks naturally dig looking for roots and tubers, ruining landscapes by digging holes around your lawn and gardens. You will often find chipmunks gathering seeds from underneath birdfeeders. When present in large numbers, they can also cause structural damage by burrowing under patios, stairs, retention walls, or foundations. Most often chipmunks are simply a nuisance.
How to locate chipmunk nests:
Chipmunk nests are underground, in stone walls or near fallen logs. The burrows are often well hidden, near objects or buildings such as stumps, wood or brush piles, basements, and garages. The burrow entrance is usually about 2 inches in diameter and is not surrounded by noticeable mounds of dirt. Removing debris, fallen branches, and logs is the most effective means for general control.
How to identify damage from a chipmunk:
Damage may occur in your lawn and gardens due to pilfering chipmunks uprooting your plants and flowers. Look closely when identifying chipmunk damage - it can often be mistaken for squirrels or voles. When a burrow is found, spray Bobbex-R Animal Repellent around and into the hole to deter the chipmunk from using the burrow.
How to spray BOBBEX-R to deter chipmunks:
Bobbex-R Animal Repellent is a foliar spray. Apply directly on the leaf, stem, and root system of the plant. Spraying on and around your flowerboxes may also be a deterrent. Be sure to soak the root system of the plant. Spraying Bobbex-R on your birdfeeders may also help to deter the chipmunks from stealing your birdseed. If found, spray around the entrance and into the burrow. Remember, BOBBEX-R Animal Repellent is all natural, environmentally friendly, and will not harm humans, pets, birds or aquatic life. Most importantly, it will not wash off!
Bobbex-R Animal Repellent makes a great bulb dip program to prevent burrowing chipmunks from smelling and discovering your wintered bulbs. Using Bobbex-R as a bulb protector will give your bulbs a chance to survive when first planted and throughout the winter. Chipmunks use their keen sense of smell to find roots and bulbs underground. Bobbex-R creates an aromatic barrier around the bulb and prevents these animals from discovering the bulb. Simply follow these instructions:
Remove all loose and dried plant tissue around the bulbs
Dip bulbs in straight concentrated Bobbex-R Animal Repellent (right out of the bottle). Allow bulbs to soak for 3 to 5 minutes.
Remove bulbs from concentrate and allow them to air dry.
